Engelbert Humperdinck (born Arnold George Dorsey; 2 May 1936) is an English pop singer. He is best known for his songs "Release Me" and "The Last Waltz", both singles topping the UK music charts in 1967 and selling in large enough numbers to help the singer achieve "the rare feat of scoring two million sellers in one year." In North America, he is also known for his 1976-hit single "After the Lovin'." Humperdinck is regarded by music critics to be "one of the finest middle-of-the-road balladeers around." ==Biography== Dorsey was born in Madras, India but moved to Leicester, England as a child with his family, where he took an early interest in music, initially playing the saxophone in nightclubs. He soon started singing, releasing his first single "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" in 1958. After struggling with tuberculosis, in the mid-1960s Dorsey returned to his musical career, adopting the stage name "Engelbert Humperdinck" after the German 19th-century composer of operas. He signed with Decca Records and gained early success in Belgium after representing the United Kingdom in the 1966 Knokke song contest there. On his return, he released a string of singles that proved commercially successful, both domestically and in the United States. With a devoted fan following, he had his own short-lived television series ''The Engelbert Humperdinck Show''.〔imdb.com (date unknown). Profile.
